Irregular Bleeding & Low Progesterone

by amanda211, May 29, 2008 12:45PM
I have had regular periods since I started at age 13. I have had 2 children, most recent was May of 2007. But in August 2007 I started bleeding for almost 2 months straight & I went to the E.R. and they gave me a shot to stop the bleeding but it only worked for a day. The bleeding came back and stopped around Jan 2008. I had a period in Feb and then I didn't have another period until April, and I had one this month but it was 2 weeks late. What could be causing this? I know I have low progesterone because with my 2 pregnancies I had to take progesterone suppositories in order to sustain the pregnancy. Me and my husband are trying for another baby, but I can't seem to get pregnant. Is it because I have low progesterone? Do I need to take it to get pregnant as I did to keep the pregnancy? Can you please help me!!??

I was lacking Progesterone also, which is a horomone necessary for ovulation.  I was bleeding one week on, one week off and so forth for a month (plus not ovulating).  I took Prometrium for 12 nights, started my period AGAIN during the cycle, but I believed I ovulated this past weekend which would be about right since period is due again June 6.  Since taking the progesterone supplement I have not had any other unusual bleeding and am hoping for my period to start on time next week (or not start and be pregnant :)) I m/c'd in December 07 and my cycles have been off ever since, but it was just recently that I started bleeding and that's when my gyno prescribed the progesterone supplement.  I would speak with your gyno about this, especially since you are TTC.

Well Congrats, I hope everything works out and I am glad u got everything straightened out so far. I guess I will just have them put me on the supplement b/c I had 2 miscarriages before my 1st son was born. Both were around 7 weeks at the time of miscarry so the dr put me on pro. for my next one and i had my son. It took me 14 months to conceive him and only 3 mths with the 2nd one haha, don't know what happened there :) It takes us so long to conceive, we have been trying since our last son was born in may of '07 b/c we knew it would take us this long to get pregnant, but still nothing.... But I was told that if u have low pro. thats what can cause it. So I guess thats what it is. Thank you for you're help, and again, I hope everything works out. I will be praying for there to be a bun in the oven for you :0) Good Luck!!

Also, sorry to hear about you're m/c. I've been there twice and had 2 D&C's, and it's tough but you can get through it. Good luck to you :0)
