Moving away from my Dr. This is really scary.

by franco1470, May 29, 2008 08:14PM
Because of the failing economy I have to leave my hometown and move to NC.  I have a damaged spine and take oxycodone as prescribed.  I've had the same doctor and pharmacy the whole time, they've known me for years and there's never been an issue and my doctor is great.

But now I'm moving 800 miles away.  I've got my dosage down to 35mg/day and my doctor will prescribe me enough to
last a couple months before I leave.  How hard is it going to be to find another doctor?  I'm a 49 yr old clean cut guy with no criminal record.  I will be coming back here when I can since my two youngest sons will stay here with their Mom, but I don't want to have to come back just to see the doctor.

This has me really scared.  I've turned down other offers because I was afraid to leave.  This offer is too good to pass up

I can only imagine how scary leaving your DR is. Mine is great and I know I will be in pain longer than she can be in practice and dread the day she leaves.

finding a PM DR anywhere can be difficult.  But if you have good medical records with no redflags and havent been black listed by any DR, then that will make it a little easier.
It can take months to get an app with a good pain doc. I would ask my DR first if they know of any where I will be moving. Thats kind of a shot in the dark, so I would also find out what DR's are under your insurance plan in the new state and call them for an app, before you actually move  That way your no scrambling for help as your running out of medication.
Let them know you are moving and are going to be in need of a new DR.

I hope you find one easily. I'm glad your PM DR is willing to help you out for a little while
