15 Year Old Fell In Pond Health Concerns

by john970, May 29, 2008 08:33PM
Hi,

My 15 year old tripped and fell into a duckpond in our residential community.  It appears to be dirty with waste (not pollution, just duck waste and some garbage).  Most people have said not to worry.  A few said I should be concerned.

He fell in and got right out.  He took several good showers.  The pediatrician told my son that he should not worry.  He said that people swim in dirty lakes and ponds for long periods of time.  He said to only be concerned if a lot of water was ingested.  My son doesn't think that he ingested any water.  I hope this doesn't seem like a "dumb" question, but can bacteria, parasites, and/or other fluids have gotten into his body through his penis, anus,or anything else?

Is there anything at all (short and/or long term) that we should be concerned about.  Can he have gotten bacteria and/or parasites in him?  Will it go away on its own?

My son has been itching a little, sometimes with small red rashes or streaks after itching, in addition to being a litle nauseous (but regular appetite and no diarrhea)... but this could just be him worrying and either a minor side-effect or even unrelated.  Can this be related, is there anything to do, and will this stop on its own if it is related?

Thanks for the help, just a little concerned as you can tell.
