AMG 386/Taxol Trial

by abrite, May 30, 2008 12:53AM
Have any of you been on the AMG 386/Taxol Phase II clinical trial? If so, what side-effects have you experienced and how well is the treatment working for you? Although I rarely post, I am always appreciative of your thoughts and insights. Thank-you!

Hi there! I got offered this trial when I found out the last trial I was in didn't work. The reason I said no was, well, actually there were a few reasons. First, the trial is a blind study with three arms to it. There are two arms that have the AMG386 plus taxol (in varied doses) and the third arm is a placebo plus taxol. My cancer was growing fast and I didn't want to risk being in the arm that got just the taxol as I had been on it twice previously and had seen no results. The study does become un-blinded after 8 weeks (I believe) but still, at that time, 2 months was a long time to go not knowing. Also, it was weekly taxol which I meant I had to travel almost 2 hours there and back (to Toronto) to get it infused - not really my thing! The doctor's did tell me that when Taxol is given as a weekly dose that the side effects aren't as bad...no idea about the AMG386 though. What kinds of chemo have you been on in the past?

Hi Becky,

Thanks so  much for your response. Gosh, I can't imagine having to travel 2 hours to chemo! I have been on this study for 2 months and have seen improvement in my CA 125. Will have a CT scan soon which will probably give a better picture...no pun intended : ).  In the past I have had Taxol/Carbo/Avastin...Femara...Doxil...and now this. I had the most difficulty with the Doxil so am happy with this treatment. I still  am amazed by how different we all respond to each treatment.  The very best to you!
