Can this be Telogen Effluvium?

by moonflower13, May 30, 2008 08:10AM
I hope someone can offer me insight. I've been doing extensive web search for my problem and I've come up with diverse and often contradictory opinions and answers, I hope someone can clarify.

I'm a female in my early 30s. I've always had very healthy, thick hair. About 3-4 weeks ago, I began to shed uncontrollably, leaving hairs everywhere, on a seat, on my pillow and, of course, whenever I washed or combed my hair. Whenever I comb my hair with my fingers, without doing the slightest pull, I come up with at least 3-4 hairs that were already loose. What upsets me most is that I occasionally find a new, thin, short hair that looks like a new hair that fell off.

I will add that I've been on contraceptive pills (Dianette) for about 5 years, and decided to quit last January. While I was on it, my hair got even better than before; I've heard people report hair loss while on the pill, but it definitely wasn't my case. Also, I was down with severe flu in early March.

Has anyone been through something similar? Will I regrow all the hair I'm losing? Also, if I went back on the pill, would that help at all?

Thanks in advance.
