Digestion problems

by vdrtime, May 30, 2008 04:28PM
I recently had troubles with my stomach (http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/520201), where it would feel as if it was moving and gurgling all of the time (queasiness, but not quite nausea). It helped if I ate every 3-4 hours and sat up. I had no appetite. This lasted for a little over a week and went away by itself gradually (it came May 12 and went away May 21). 2 days ago I started having smaller episodes of the same thing where my stomach would gurgle and rumble a little bit just after I ate, and last night I had a small pain beneath my lower left ribcage. I still have my appetite though. The stomach is the most annoying part though, it is not painful but I seem to be aware of every movement it makes. Again, sitting up makes it better. I am going to the doctor on the 6th because I am worried this could be the early stages of something serious!

Any hearburn, bloating or burping? If yes, ask for breath test for H. pylori infection of stomach.

Thank you for your help! Last night I took 20 mg of Omeprazole and the pain under my ribcage and the constant gurgling went away. Now, a little less than a day later, the symptoms came back I took another tablet and the symptoms subsided. I have been burping just a little bit (I hardly ever burp normally). Are these symptoms indicative of an ulcer or ulcers somewhere in my stomach?

It may be gastritis or ulcer, these are actually two stages of the same process. They both usually start wit H. pylori infection, what causes increased acid secretion and leads toward gastritis or ulcer. It can't be said from the outside, if it is ulcer or not - only upper endoscopy would show that. But before this, just go and have breath test for H. pylori. If positive, it is treated with 2 weeks antibiotics. You can continue with omeprazole, but speak with the doctor about it.

I went to the doctor about a week ago and told him everything. I forgot to ask for a breath test though. He gave me a prescription for Omeprazole 20 mg when I told him I'd been taking it, so insurance pays for most of it now. In July I am supposed to go back if I don't get any better, which I don't think I will. He said he will take an x-ray then (barium x-ray I assume). This stuff isn't getting worse and I have stopped worrying about what it is (for the most part). I now think that the 'stomach movements' are trapped gas (what else could they possibly be). Why would I get gas from NOT eating for four hours? Don't most people get gas right after they eat? Maybe the H. pylori bacteria is lower in my digestive tract? The only thing I found out really is that I have some warts on my toe :P

H. pylori can be in the duodenum, and...food can stay in the stomach for some hours, before reaching duodenum.
