my mother has a big clot

by joepa, May 30, 2008 11:45PM
My mother had a stroke 6 weeks after her heart surgery, she was on coumidin so when the paramedics came thet y said she would have to ride it out, since they couldnt give her anything because of the coumidin...long story short, she got exray just recently and she still has the same big clot lodged in her brain, its been 4 years since the stroke, and the clot is still there and they said the right side of her brain is kinda mush since theres no blood flow, i am her son and ive kept her home these last 4 years and i have tor do everything for her, she can only use her right arm to eat, shes been in and out of the hospital for seizures and such, my question is, how long can she live with this clot in her brain, i have been up day an nights taken care of her and its taken a toll on me, but ill still take care of her but i  just want to know how long she has to live, shes 82 years old, i use diapers with her , clean her , and do everything, but i want to know what yoou think on how long someone can live in this condition,, i have to make financial decisions and want to know how long she may live and if its not long then i want to take her out and do more things with her, so if you have an answer it would help me out, thank YOU...Joe

Hi,
One can never predict such things. She has been living like this for a long time. She may continue to do so.
Or for some reason the clot could move and further worsen the situation or could even be fatal.
So make the best of the time you have with her.
God bless you for your dedication and your commitment.
Have you discussed her prognosis with her doctor? You will have a better idea if you do so.
