Heartburn
Some intestinal irritation.
Definitely affects the immune system. Get sick much easier.
The longer I am away from it. If I accidentally ingest any, the reactions seem much stronger and quicker than before.
I had a positive test for gluten sensitivity. I don't think I'm celiac but have not been tested. No real reason to. The treatment is the same....Stay away from gluten.
He was diagnosed via fecal antibody test along with genetic (allele) testing. Best thing he ever did.
Fogginess of the brain
Insatiable hunger + seemingly 'active' metabolism (couldn't put on weight)
Mild bloating
Moderate to Severe heart burn (diagnosed as acid reflux)
Lactose Intolerance (Celiac Disease and Lactose Intolerance go hand in hand)
Headaches and SEVERE migraines
No menses (until I went gluten free)
Severe Anemia/Fainting
Vomiting, usually an hour or so after eating--ex. when bending over to tie my shoes or jumping on a trampoline. If I sat still after eating I usually wouldn't vomit, but I would feel as if I was about to.
Diarrhea/very foul smelling feces
Osteoporosis, which was diagnosed with bone density scan. Many, many broken bones and fractures.
Abnormal bruising/bleeding... Later discovered to be a result of a vitamin K deficiency.
Because of these symptoms/complications I experienced as a person living with Celiac Disease my doctor (not anymore!!!) thought I had leukemia + an eating disorder. It wasn't until I found a new doctor that took my symptoms seriously and was able to piece together what was wrong that I began to get my health in order. Finding a good doctor who is experienced with Celiac patients will help tremendously!
Hope this was somehow useful.
