Fish and Flax oil and spinal tap

by Hopeful607, Jun 01, 2008 05:03PM
I am scheduled to have a spinal tap in four days and am taking 1 tablespoon of Flaxseed oil and 1 teaspoon of Fish oil daily.  The hospital said that this is not a problem for spinal taps, but I am concernd since I know that Flax oil and fish oil are both considered to be blood thinners.  Should I be concernd about this, and delay the spinal tap until I can be off these oils for a week -- or is three days enough?

Omega 3 oils may increase bleeding time, however, research has showed no significant bleeding occurred with coronary bypass patients who were given fish oil until the day of their surgery. Suggest if you are concerned, then stop taking the oils before the test.
