Is this normal 5 weeks post vitretomy?

by zyphon, Jun 02, 2008 06:21AM
I had a vitrectomy 5 weeks ago. The bubble is still obscuring half my vision. My eye has become scratchy the past few days and is a little red. My surgeon has me on Predforte and last week dropped the dosage from 4 to 2 drops a day. I had inflammation 3 weeks ago. My surgeon is wonderful but very hard to talk to. Should I beconcerned about the scratchiness and the slowness of the bubble to dissolve? I had  surgery in the other eye for a complete retinal detachment 3 years ago and it seemed to resolve itself more quickly than this time. I stay nervous because of all the trouble I have had with my eyes. Can you reassure me or suggest a plan of action?

Part of surgery is being able to communicate with the patient. Only your surgeon can answer those qeustions INSIST that he address your concerns.

Hi, I am a community leader here not a doctor. I have a lot of experience helping eye patients including myself. Welcome to our community.

I am sorry you are having this experience.

I had a surgeon who was impossible to talk to. I finally changed. If yours is also kind, I think you should give him another chance.

Make another appoinment tomorrow, and explain that you need reassurance very badly, that you need to come right away.

If that does not work, I would change. I went through 8 months of agony, because my surgeon would not communicate, and for other reasons.

What's best for you is your choice, of course.
