can this be asthma

am a 26 yr old male, 3 weeks ago i started coughing and decided to use some cough syrup which did not reduce or eradicate the cough. but just last week anytme i cough i have to spit out mucor. recently i started having difficulty breathing anytime i cough. sumtimes it goes on for 3 minutes and i think am probably going to die. please i need your advice
