Help Me!! HIV Chance

by jondon, Jun 02, 2008 04:22PM
Please help me. Doctor:

Now, I feel exactly the symptom as catching HIV – feel lack of energy, frequently feels fever and sweats.

It was 5 weeks ago, I was working in Nigeria assigned as an expert by company – Never been so long time from my wife.  I had met a black girl, a restaurant server in a hotel. I was worrying about HIV before and she said that she had HIV tested 3 months ago.  I had a protected sex intercourse with her for about 20 minutes – The condom was bought in a medical shop in Lagos, it was not broken and not slipped during the period, after injecting, I washed outside first and took the condom off in which the semen was still inside.

I was so worried and did not sleep well for two nights, and feel fever as well as sweating, and went a local clinic for a quick HIV test (they use test kit, and I saw the clinic was kind of poor) in three days – negative. Now, since I back home, I feel lack of energy, and still frequently fevers and sweats. I had all lab tests including HIV test request through my family doctor last Tuesday, all other result had come out with no other problem – no Malaria, no lung diseases, no lever diseases, and no other kind of Affric fever. My doctor said I need to wait for 3 weeks to get the HIV test result from the Public Health lab.
Now:
- What can I do?
- Who can save me?
- Maybe I am unfortunately in the chance of 1/100,000 or 1/10,000?
- I regret and I would never do it again if god let me free of HIV at this time!!!
- I have my wife and kid needing my look after!!!

sounds like you are dealing with guilt...not hiv.

you had protected sex...no need to test again :)

You need to calm down.  You used a condom!  That means you had safe sex.  The main problem in Africa and continually contracting the hiv virus is because people are not practicing safe sex.  If you ask any of the professionals this same thing, they will give you the same answer.  The main problem is that you did something out of character which causes you too stress and start assuming the worst.  You need to learn from the mistake and if you continue to be concerned just get a test after 6 weeks and I am sure it will be negative.  Your golden:-)

Thanks, people. I wish as you had comments on my worries.
But I can not explain why I have all these symptoms which I had never experience before - lack of energy, cough, sweats a lot, headach, feaver, and they come all together
Today, I had a lunch time walk with lady colleagues, I sweated a lot and hard to catch up with them. Before, I had never been like that.

Thank you again!! I am getting less worry now. But still not 100% sure if I am OK.
I read a lot of survey:
1).  Some say it protect 85%~98%, as some of the condom may lead or infect body through other ways.
2).  How about skin touching with sweating

hiv is transmitted through UNPROTECTED vaginal/anal intercourse...sharing of iv drug works...and mother to child.

Yes, do as lizzie says and read up on HIV Anxiety....MANY people in similar situations such as yours (especially when there is guilt involved) SWEAR they know they're infected.  Anxiety causes ALL kinds of very real physical sensations.

Condoms used properly protect you from HIV.  NO risk for you.

If you are having a hard time getting past the anxiety...you may want to seek some professional help..after all...this is weighing pretty heavily on your mind.

Also..there is an anxiety forum here...with a lot of great people who can help you with your anxiety.

Try to put it behind you and not give it a second thought...and enjoy your family.
