B12 deficiency

by chrismon, Jun 04, 2008 02:06PM
Hi Dr Downing,

My blood test shows a Vitamin B12 level of 196 ( normal range is 200 to 615). Do you think I should worry about this level as we are TTC for 2 months now?
I had a misscarriage in Dec 2007 and I am currently on 1500 mg Glumetza/day and Pregovit with Folic Acid.

Thank you for your time,

Hello,

First, I'd have you talk with your internist (or the physician who ordered the lab).  I don't think the B12 level is concerning.  That said, you should consider increasing your intake in B12 rich foods (e.g., fortified breakfast cereals, salmon/trout, lean beef tenderloin, shellfish and others).

Best regards,

Dr. Downing
