Will my SVT go away?

by markh966, Jun 04, 2008 03:30PM
My names Mark and im only 14, people at school always ask me stupid questions about my SVT when i get sent to the nurse because im having a palpitation. People come up to me and say, "I know some one with the same thing as you.. well i used to but he died from it" and they don't realise how much it annoys me.
People say, "Are you going to die?!".. What am i supposed to say to that? I don't even know..One day i walked into school and everyone came running up to me sayin "MARK YOU'RE ALIVE!" because the day before i had gone home from school because of my heart. Rumors like this get spread.. and i don't know the full truth about SVT and how long i will have it or if it will kill me.. Anyone any information? Cheers..

I'm told that SVT is not dangerous and can be controlled with medicine. But you have to see a doctor to find out what medicine is for you. Anyway, how do you know it's SVT if you haven't seen a doctor?  Don't get upset with all those remarks. Bet them  a dollar you'll come to school tomorrow. That way you'll get enough  money to see a cardiologist.

School is hard but one day you will make a big success of your life and the people who make stupid comments will have some health issues of their own one day and will remember back to their teenaged self and feel ashamed.

If you have been diagnosed with SVT you must have seen a doctor so your questions should go to them. I don't believe it is life threatening but might need treatment later on, or not. It must be annoying for you but you will end up as a person that can empathise with others who have chronic health issues and will be a better person for this.

School is full of jerks and my experience has been that the people who were cool and popular didn't always stay that way after school. It was the geeks and nerds who have had great careers while some of the sporty guys are working in stores. Not that there's anything wrong with that, just saying school is a dog eat dog place that doesn't resemble the real world often.

Try to ignore them if you can and perhaps talk to a teacher about trying to get more privacy around your health. Everyone needn't know why you've gone home or whatever, that's your business not theirs.

Be kind to yourself.

hi mark i'm kym, i have svt and have had many serious attacks but hey i'm still here!!!

you can not die of svt. i have had many episodes that have put me in hospital and had 3 attacks in a row that i needed adenosine for (which is dreadful) but i had the cardiac ablation 4 months ago which has helped heaps and i now continue to take my meds, flecanide which also helps. kids are cruel, but i'm very very certain you def can't die, it might feel like you are whilst having an attack but don't worry, your very young threrfore your body can take the fast heart rate, although it is annoying and uncomfortable.

sounds like you could do with some meds to control your heart rhythm, your doctor or cardiologist can prescribe these and there is also a booklet they can give you to read about the condition. biggest tip i can give you is try not to panic, i know it's hard but panicing increases the heart rate further. good luck, n ignore your mates they are prob jealous of all the extra attention you get!!!!
