Black spots on cats eyelids

by elorahd, Jun 05, 2008 06:33PM
I have a male orange tabby that I've just noticed has these black spots inside his eyelids.  I noticed one yesterday in the middle of his lower eyelid.  Then, today, I noticed one in the middle of his other lower eyelid.  I tried to get it off but it wouldn't come off.  Looks like a stain or something.  When I looked closer I also noticed that it's in the inner corner of his eyes and "spreading" to the upper lid.  I could *possibly* interpret his behavior as being slightly depressed - staying inside a little more than usual, wanting a little more attention that usual - but other than that, he's fine.  I had an orange tabby who developed browning on the inside of his lids, but he was 15 years old.  This cat is only 2.  Anyone seen this before or know what it is?

It sounds like freckles. I know that's a boring answer, but it does happen to cats. I've noticed orange tabby's seem to get this especially (mine has one or two). If you're worried about his state of mind, or his eyes are weeping, I'd get him checked out to be sure there isn't something wrong.

i have an orange tabby as well, but i have never seen this in him! i will be sure to watch for it! i would think that there might be an eye infection, or an eye abrasion if it is only on one eye. is the eye crusty or weepy? and have you been doing any work around the house? does the cat sneeze alot? those are things that come with a sinus infection. if he;s being extra lovey then there might be a problem more serious. diabeedes and orgn failures start with some ulcers in the mouth, but i would assume that they could be found near the eyes as well.
my orange cat has always been exceptionally lovey. the only time he doesn't want his momma is when he is hot. he even runs to the bathroom window to watch me leave for work in the morning! and he yowels mom when he's at the window! he's quite the critter.
try a couple drops od regular eye drops. saliene solution is best. i had a hampster that got pink eye (oh so weird) my mom took him to the vet for me when i was a kid because of it. she was never more embarrased. she put him in a little baskett with a closing lid and carted him off. the vet didn't charge her for the visit as he thought it was so cute that she took him in at all! it was after all a hampster. he told her to get some eye drops at the drug store and have me put them in every day. I did and the hampster was all better in a week.
could be that simple. if your worried about money (which most are) keep a close eye on him for a day. but don't wait too long. clean his eye real well with eye wash and use eye drops. watch him for anything else. give him a real deep massage and feel around for anything that feels too stiff and isn't bones. that's an indication of an inflamed organ (just like in people!) if he's being loafish and won't curl up tucking himself into the customary ball that's an indication that there is something wrong as well. sick cats get lazy. they loaf. check his temp in his ears. do they feel really warm, or just mildly warm? mildly warm is normal.
cats do change their spots due to enviromental factors. just like we change clothes!
what did it end up being with the other cat? was that something to be worried about? if so then it could be the same thing. it could also be a bruise!
i hope something i said helped!

I gave my hamster to a friend as a gift when  was a kid (dog kept trying to eat it) with EXPLICIT instructions not to let it get behind anything (as it was wont to do).

sure enough, the next day, he called to ask me how to call the hamster out from the hole in the wall it crawled into.

I said "You don't. You now must put food by the hole in the wall, or suffer the fate of those who anger "The Hamster of the Opera". :)
