is chiropractic care the only answer?

by sallysally, Jun 06, 2008 11:47AM
I was recently in a car accident and I am suffering from low back pain and every once in a while, I am also getting a tingly sensation in my legs all the way down to my toes.  Having never been in an accident or had any pain type problems, my education on the subject in lacking.  I went online to try to educate myself and the only thing that my searches seem to generate is chiropractors.  All of my friends also recommend chiropractors.  I have heard some good things and some bad thing about chiros but I wanted to know what other options are out there for me.  My personal injury lawyer seems very intent on sending me to a particular chiropractor.  As skeptical as I already am about personal injury lawyers, I am also wary of his eagerness to get me started with a chiropractor right away.  I told him that I wanted to find out my options before starting treatment.  Some feedback would be greatly appreciated.  Should I see a chiropractor or should I see maybe a Neurologist or physical therapist, or even an acupuncturist.  I understand that my auto insurance will pay up to a certain point.  I want to get better I don’t want someone who is looking to get everything I my insurance will give them.  I have heard horror stories and I don’t want to be taken advantage of.  Please help me out here.  Thanks.  -Sally

Yes,you are right!
My opinion is that you should go to see orthopaedic or neurologist first for accurate diagnosis (not only "back pain"),it seem you suffer from trapped nerves of lower back.
It is a common misconception that back pain always stems from the pressure of a slipped disc or a trapped nerve.  This is misleading, the main cause of pain is inflammation stimulating nerves, causing the pain signal.
Chrio or acupuncture..whatever,Do they work for your condition?
It dependent on where the inflammation is .Alternative medicine work well when the inflammation is outside of the spinal column.  they do not work when the inflammation is in the spinal column itself.
So,go to doc,good luck!
