Just read your post and had to respond. I do not claim to be an expert or anything. Just trying to give I hope some good advice. I do understand the drug abuse problem. My 28 year old son once was an addict. I do understand the COPD as well. I too have this lung disease. I am in the moderate stage. Seems your mother is in the severe stage. The effects of copd and cocaine abuse are not good whatsoever. COPD is a very serious lung disease. And with this disease, it is all about taking good care of yourself. Taking meds, eating healthy, exercising and having a good doctor. All this is to keep the lungs built up as much as possible. COPD effects the immune system. Meaning a cold or flu can be very dangerous. I am in the moderate stage but I do experience problelms with the COPD. I once was healthy. Just this past winter I had bronchitis twice, pnemonia, a cold and pleurisy.  So, I am getting sick more often. I am just recently experiencing problems with my ankles swelling. Seems that not much of a serious thing. But with COPD swelling of the ankles means probably the COPD is effecting my heart. And this is in the moderate stage. Your mother is in a more advanced stage than me. I know when my son was an addict I would cry and beg him to stop. While a minor, I even placed him in various drug rehab programs. Bottom line was, an addict wont quit until they are ready. That is the sad part. My heart goes out to you and your mother. Maybe you can talk to her and reason with her. Somehow make her realize that she is killing herself pretty much. I so hate to put it that way, but it is the honest truth. I am here for you, if you would like to talk further.
