eye injury - dominant eye

by barca99, Jun 11, 2008 03:46AM
Hi there,

I am a 38 year old with a recently injured right eye meaing vision from it is now blurred. My left eye is good though. The right eye was dominant before the injury but I think the left eye is now becoming more dominant. I injured the eye two months ago. Has anybody got any experience with how long it takes a previoulsy non-dominant good eye to take over and if eventually I will not notice the problem with the bad eye (unless I am looking at somthing the good eye cannot see).

Thanks.

John.

The right eye will start to take over again when it gets back to normal or near-normal vision.  At present it is probably a blessing that that left eye is helping so much.  Quite honestly, you need to concentrate your efforts on getting your right eye back to normal.  As I see it, the issue of dominance is not nearly as important and will take care of itself.  Keep the focus on improving the right eye.  If it doesn't get better the left will carry the main vision load and that would be a good thing.

Hi there, thanks for the reply.

The injured eye suffered blunt trauma causing damage to the iris sphincter muscle. The pupil is now too big and can only close down to about 6-7mm diameter. This is causing blurred vision and problems in bright light. I did it 8 weeks ago. Is it likley the pupil will improve? If it doesn't then does the brain learn to filter out the vision from the bad eye so that ultimatley I will only notice it occasionally? How long does this normally take?

Thanks.

John.
