ultram/tramadol

by bobo616, Jun 11, 2008 09:53AM
Help.  I am 34, since 28 I have been on Ultram from back surgery.  I need help, they have overtaken my life.  I cannot function without them.  I have heard about saboxin, but I have also heard going off ultram cold turkey causes seizures.  My next refill is in 5 days.  I have a family and a good job but my only worry is when I can get this refilled.  This is not who i used to be!  I have never done drugs prior to this and I dont even drink.  I am a family man who is being sucked in.  I am prescribed 8/day but this is not enough and this is why i am always running out before my next refill.  Somebody please give me advice because I believe this is my first "step".  The only person who knows this is my wife who i love.  I could lose my job if this is revealed and this would be an embarresment for me to tell my family.  Help

How many have you been taking a day ? You are not supposed to go CT off of trams that is correct. Most sub doctors will not prescribe sub for tramdol addiction ,because tramadol is not considered an opiate . I have seen 2 people here that have found doctor that would do it.Honeslty your best bet is coming clean with your doctor about your problem that way the two of you could work out a taper plan to get off of it once and for all. There are some meds that he could give you to help you get threw detox.

AVISG is wise and listen to her.  She prevented me from getting addicted to these things when my doctor moved me to them during lortab taper.  They are a weak opioid, and will cause withdrawals if take for more than a couple of weeks.  You have taken a great first step!  I would just go into your doctor, and tell him after taking them this long, you would like to taper down to see if the pain is manageble.  Tell him your concerns...if you read the insert that comes from the pharmacy, they will validate that there are withdrawls and you should not abruptly taper this medication.  You can do this, and you've already made progress by reaching out to the people on here that have walked the walked and can help you...even if it is just to talk.

I have been taking Ultram since my 1st hand surgery in 2000...
I was taking 1 day......then a yr later 2 a day....
then eventually later 2 ....2 times a day...
Right now Im taking 2 ...3 times a day...
My Dr said that 6 a day is max recomended...
But I have Keinbock's Disease...and I have recently had and will have another surgery in a few weeks...So I also take Vicodin...and Percocet....NOT ALL @GETHER>>>
when I have surgery i go off Ultram and take the ones that really work on the pain...
Sometimes they have to give me toridol.... Casue the others dont work...
When you have your arms cut in 1/2 and rused back 2gether...not much works on pain...they gave me 3 hits of morphine in hospital after my last surgery and it didnt work at all till thew 4th dose,,,
UGHHHHHHH
But needless to say i have been taking Ultram for over 8 years now...
