Weight & Strength loss since having pacemaker

by JoeyD3, Jun 11, 2008 02:54PM
My 80 year old Father had a pacemaker implanted in April because his heart rate was down to 40 beats per minute.  He had bypass surgery July 06' and has been as healthy and active as he was before the sudden surgery. This is a truely healthy man all of his life and even at the age of 80 was in good enough shape to make most people back away if they angered him.  Since the pacemaker was implanted he has lost 20 lbs. has a terrible time standing up and walking, and is fatigued all of the time.  He has turned into a little old man in just a couple of months.  I have been with him at all of his checkups for the pacemaker and they say everything is PERFECT!  Blood pressure, heart rate, etc. and that the pacemaker is working properly!  So why has he lost so much weight and all of his strength!  They told us yesterday 06/10 that the leads are in the bottom of the heart and that they cannot adjust the heart rate!!!!  This I don't understand, every one I have ever know that has had a pacemaker installed became a NEW person not an OLD person!

I was 58 with no other problems. I was not too strong before the surgery but after the pace maker I feel like I am 100. Dr. blame it on anxiety. I cannot walk without a walker and I am so tired I have no energy to do much. But they say the pace maker is fine. I wonder why they are not telling the whole truth.I wish u and your dad well.
