Endometrial Stripe

by puddinhd58, Jun 11, 2008 05:00PM
I am a 49 yof two years post menopause.  I was on hormone replacement patches for about a year and was taking another type of hormone for two weeks q three months.
That made my cycles start back so I d/c the hormone replacement completely around 5 months ago.

I just went  and had a pelvic ultrasound and the results state
The endometrail stripe is prominent, measuring 1.2 cm.  This is nonspecific and could represent endometrail hypertrophy.  Clinical correlation is recommended.

My last vaginal ultrasound was two years ago and it was normal....

could this be uterine cancer?

Hi,
In postmenopausal women, endometrial stripe measurements by transvaginal ultrasonography are used to exclude endometrial neoplasia. Limited information exists on the use of endometrial stripe measurements for premenopausal women.1,2 Endometrial thickness varies throughout the menstrual cycle; thus, a thickened stripe may not indicate pathology.
We hypothesized that a transvaginal endometrial stripe of less than 5 mm in premenopausal women would exclude endometrial polyps and intracavitary leiomyomata, thereby eliminating the need for sonohysterography.

So this  study suggests that there could be uterine pathology-tumor/mass could be present but further investigations are required along with your clinical history before any conclusion can be made.
