chemical burn in childs eye

My one and half year old got some all purpose cleaner in his eye from my 4 year old my husband quickly rinsed him off including his eyes. an hour and half after going to sleep he woke up crying and he would not open his eye it was swelling. so we took him to emerg they flushed out his eyes for 40 minutes or so and put drops in by the end of the next day he was opening his eyes and seemed better but by this morning both eyes are closed again and his left eye keeps getting bigger and it is turning purplish and red on the outside we are giving him drops form the opthamologist and when we pry open his eyelid we can't even see his eye. is this normal or should we be taking further steps to get him checked out?

It is not my place to get involved in this potentislly serious and complicated case with your child.  This acute case needs to be taken care of by your personal ophthalmologist.  Call him or her right away.  Sorry.
