prenatal vitamins

by jhh42, Jun 11, 2008 08:38PM
Who is taking OTC prenatal vitamins and who is taking a prescription? I have been on a prescription but my insurance won't cover any more through my local pharmacy. I must do a mail order. I really don't want to mess with that. I am considering buying OTC vitamins. Anyone else taking them....what brand????

I take otc.  I did not like the prescription ones, they gave me heartburn. I take Nature Made Prenatal. I get them at Walgreens. Make sure they're ok with your doctor; mine said they were fine.

I take OTC but I don't know which one it is. I know it has 800 folic acid. My doc says mine are fine too.
Just talk to your doc or nurse and ask what you should look for or if they have a brand they would recommend.

I take otc, onesource brand

I am doing a bit of both--Rx is Duet DHA...I take them at night since the DHA gives me "fish burps."  YUCK!!!!!!!  Sometimes if I am feeling sick, I will just take the otc ones--One Source.  I also take an Rx of Premesis at night---It is a complex B prenatal vitamin with folicĀ acid to help prevent morning sickness.

You know I took Duet DHA and the reflux was HORRIBLE.....funny you mentioned hat kindergal.  And my co-pay was like $30 so I said forget it and doc said OK to it.

I take Trader Joe's prenatals- they are the same thing as Rainbow brand (Rainbow sells them to TJ's and TJ"s puts their name on it)  They are great.  I used to take CVS brand and I have noticed a HUGE difference since starting the TJ's prenatals.  My hair is nicer and more shiny, and my nails are super strong, and I also feel like I have more energy.

My father in law, who is like a "vitamin guru" and knows everything there is to know about vitamins and supplements (he has a lot of time on his hands, lol) was very impressed with the quality of these prenatals.
