Help Please

by Khia, Jun 13, 2008 12:38AM
I have been reading through your forum but am still a bit uneasy and need advice.
I did labcorp STD panel testing and got my results which were all negative except the "HSV, IgM I/II Combination" part which was highlighted and my results were 1.44, under the "flags" column there is an "H" and under the Ref. Interval it says 0.0-0.9 which leads me to believe I've tested positive since 1.44 is greater...it doesn't say "positive" anywhere though...how should I interpret this and what should I do?
I really appreciate your time and consideration...

Also, is this something I need to tell my partner?  I really don't want to alarm him unless this means serious business...we last had unprotected sex about 6 weeks ago and don't routinely do that but we have a few times.

The igm is a complete waste of time and money.  It should've never been ordered on you. Completely disregard its results.  Was your herpes igg negative?

Was your partner tested? If not then they should be so you know ifyou have to worry about herpes and other std's while together.

Thank you so much for you reply.  The scores I typed in were the only ones related to HSV...They were for the "HSV, IgM I/II combo"
So I don't think an IgG was done.  How do I go about finding a place to do an IgG on me and my boyfriend?
Does this mean I basically still have not been tested for Herpes? This *****...

Sorry I didn't know that last word was considered obscene...beg pardon

I'm always amazed at what words it bleeps out....he he he  I didn't even think I was cussing one day and it bleeped me!!!

Call your provider and ask them if you had a herpes igg blood test done. if you only had the igm done it was a waste of time so ask them to credit you for the igm and order the igg instead.

Okay thanks.  I went through personalabs online and actually did testing at a labcorp site (much cheaper than my doc since my ins doesn't pay for the lab work until after deductible)..that being said I researched a bit today and just FYI for anyone else, there are places that will run the IgG test...the quote I got was for 159.00...which isn't great but i need the peace of mind right now.  Grace thanks so much....don't get mad bc I hear you when you say the IgM test is worthless...but what does a result of 1.44 mean (it'll bother me if I don't ask)?  THanks again!!!

The igm you got means nothing.  It could be positive due to hsv1, hsv2 or even another viral illness. It's not recommended to be drawn in adults for the purpose of diagnosing hsv. I'd call the lab you used and ask them to do the igg instead.
