colon cancer?

by gatestone, Jun 13, 2008 12:39AM
ok, i have been having some issues as of lateley i believe, actually its so minor i dont even know if its a huge issue but here i go.

When i go to the bathroom i usually push out one big chunk and then what follows is a bunch of other chunks except way smaller chunks, they are very soft  and very oddly shaped.  I have minor irritation in my waist and stomach and intestinal area and im trying to figure out what this could possibly be.. also when the smaller chunks come out the butthole feels really warm (sorry for the graphic description), not burning like it hurts or anything...no sign of blood...sometimes some irritation on the left side of my waist... im 18 years old also..

when i say irritation i mean a pain, but its hardly a pain at all and does not really hurt at all or anything.

so what could this be? should i  even be concerned or does this sound like something that will eventually go away on its own?

Hi,
What this sound like is normal excretion of stools. The reflex which causes evacuation of the bowels is associated with a sensation of discomfort.
Do you have any associated symptoms of loss of weight/appetite, any changes in bowel movement-in terms of frequency/quantity/character?
If yes to any of the above ,then you need to get evaluated further.
The irritation could be due to a particular type of food consumed which might have caused amild inflammation.
It should settle down in aweek to 10 days.

My husband's 1st wife had colon cancer. It was discovered too late, & she passed away at the age of 24 saddly. Your symptoms don't sound like what my husband told me she had. She started having symptoms in her late teens... chronic constipation, stomach pain, etc. One day while she was away at college, she started throwing up really hard & thought she had a virus. She was staying really tired & just couldn't shake it. She went to her local doctor & after various testing they discovered that she had colon cancer. She was given only a year to live, but with treatment lived 4. Your symptoms don't sound like cancer to me. I'm no forum doctor or nurse on here, but am an LPN. Coln cancer will tend to cause one to have stomach pain, bloody or black stools, loss of appetite, nausea & vomiting. If u still worry, u could get a checkup from your primary care doctor. Good luck!

this has been going on for about a month now... what do you mean by character? frequency and quantity are about the same i believe and the color of it has not changed at all...could this be polyps? what are my chances of having colon cancer at the age of 18 anyways?? could this be some natural thing with my body growing?

Do you have any family history of colon cancer (e.g., parent, grandparent, sibling)?  Otherwise it is extremely rare in a person of your age.  Even with a family history, colon cancer is very slow to develop.  Speak to your primary care physician about your concerns.  Good luck.

the last person in my family to have colon cancer was my great grandma who survived it and died of other causes. My father they found a polyp that was not cancerous. i went to the bathroom today and i actually had a normal bowel movement! but then...when i went later that day it was back to what it always has been except this time some pieces had some black on them and i just went the piece that came out was about half dark half normal color.

i have none of the other symptoms such as weight loss, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, no constipation at all.  its so hard to tell with this kind of thing whats wrong cause it could be SO many things from what i have read on the internet. hopefully people will post more thoughts
