False Positive for IGG

by slr532, Jun 13, 2008 08:22AM
I am a middle age woman that was just tested for STD's. No problem, I don't have anything.....my test for HSV2 IGG came back positive. I don't have the numbers, and have been retested not receiving results as yet.  However, the addition crossover test is being run (whatever that is).  I have never ever had anything to make me think I had Hsv.  In the late 80's I did have a cone biopsy for HPV pre-cancerous cells after my pap.  Is it possible that my body has developed the IGG to that virus instead of the HSV?  Can they distinguish what virus or condition may cause one to build IGG?  This has been very defastating for me.  My new friend also was tested, and seemed odd his results happened to come in the same day as mine (within 4 days).  He is negative. This was his idea to do by the way.  He is now wanting to meet with his Dr. to get the facts before we go forward with a relationship.  That sounds negative in my mind.

Any information you can provide will be appreciated. I do hope to hear from my Dr. today and will request the #.

Thanks-LSR532

It is quite common for people to have HSV2 and not know it. 20% of Americans have HSV2. As many at 90% do not know it because they have not had memorable symptoms for which they sought treatment.

Your HSV2 test results are not related to HPV.

A false positive is possible, especially in the case where you also have HSV1 and your HSV2 IGG score was < 3.5. However, the cross-reactivity test should sort this out.

You should read the Herpes Handbook available from www.westoverheights.com for more information on Herpes.

It is possible to have a relationship. The risk of transmission can be reduced through drug therapy and condoms. However, both parties have to agree that the relationship is more important than herpes which many couple agree with everyday.
