Could you please help me rule out HPV.

Hi,

I am a 20 year old male who is sexually active, I have made mistakes and in the past (I will admit that I am Human) - I have participated in unprotected sex once approximately 1 1/2 - 2 years ago, and unprotected oral sex about 3 months ago. Since that time I have been sexually inactive. All other sexual contact in my lifetime has been protected.

My last STD test was 1 year ago and cleared me of all testable diseases including HIV, Gonnerea, Chlamidia, Hep A B and C, HSV 1 and 2 and probably some other things that I cannot remember.

About 6 days ago I noticed a pimple like bump begin to form on the anterior foreskin of my penis approximately 1 inch back from the tip. The lump was no more than 2-3mm in diameter and had no associated redness or noteable pain. After this time I was successfully able to pop this lump in exactly the same way that you would pop a pimple and a small amount of puss was ejected from it. My only concern is that since then the lump has not subsided or particularly reduced in size, I have noted that it is sitting directly on top of a vein and that the vein be the cause of its prolonged predominance.

I have done a great deal of research on the internet and found no evidence of HPV caused growths to secrete and form of puss or liquid and I am hoping to rule that out and conclude (Achem’s Razor) that what look like a pimple and acts like a pimple, is just a pimple.

Could you please advise me on the issue and suggest whether I can rule out HPV and alert me of any other possible diagnosis (STD or not) that I should be aware of.

T.K.

The best way to rule out HPV is by stopping squeezing and going and getting examined by a trained health care provider.  This is not an emergency since i f it is a wart it will be there for a while.  Why you are waiting to do that let me give you several reasons that this is unlikely to be a wart:

1.  It was fluid filled.  Warts are not.  That the fluid was pus makes it even less likely to be a wart.  On the other hand, cysts and pimples are pus filled and trying to squeeze there contents out typically leaves behind a residual cyst which may quickly get back to where it was before it was squeezed or even get bigger.
2.  Timing is wrong.  You do not get warts from oral sex and warts typically occur weeks (or sooner) after exposure, not after 1 and 1/2 years.

There are no other STDs to worry about.

To summarize, my advice is to stop squeezing (it will only make diagnosis more difficult), get examined and, in the interim, stop worrying.  Hope this helps.  Please let us know what the doctor says.  EWH
