Cold sore/popped pimple?

by worried28622, Jun 14, 2008 01:15PM
About 2 weeks ago I noticed a skin colored bump just below my bottom lip.  It didn't hurt/itch/burn or anything and I'm sure no one noticed it but me.  It stayed the same for about 2 weeks (never grew or turned red or anything) and a couple of days ago I got annoyed and tried to pop it.  Clear fluid came out and it started stinging and hurting and turned red (I'm guessing because I broke the skin).  Now a bumpy scab has formed.  I've never had a cold sore before so I don't know what to expect with that.  Everything I've read online doesn't suggest that this would be a cold sore by the way it started but I'm still concerned.  My bf and I have been together for a year and he's never had cold sores either so I would hate to have given this to him if that's what this is.

Thanks for any input!

Hi,

It would be best to consult a skin specialist for your symptoms. Nothing can be said with surety without having a look at the lesions.

This could be acne, pimples, folliculitis, eczema, etc.

Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus, and they're contagious.

Signs and symptoms of cold sores include:
-Small, painful, fluid-filled blisters on a raised, red, painful area of your skin
-Pain or tingling, called the prodrome, often precedes the blisters by one to two days
-Usual duration of seven to 10 days

Cold sores usually appear on your lips. Occasionally, they occur on your nostrils, chin or fingers.

Cold sores generally clear up without treatment in seven to 10 days. If you experience frequent bouts, you should consult your doctor and he/she may prescribe an antiviral medication to treat cold sores.

Let us know if you need any further information.

Regards.

Thanks!  Judging by the signs you listed what I had doesn't sound like a cold sore since it never tingled and was red until I popped and picked it.  It seems to be clearing up but if the bump returns I'll have my doctor check it out.

Hello-
I am 28 years old female. My skin is usually normal/oily. I have no pre-existing allergies. I have recently familiarized myself with glycolic acid. Last month I went to a spa and the esthetician used 20% glycolic on me for 1 minute. I showed no allergic reaction from this treatment. In fact, it made my skin glow as well as improve the overall condition.

3 weeks ago I bought 5 Glytone acid peels ranging from 30%-70%. I tested the product 2 nights ago starting with 30% glycolic acid. First I used Cetaphil to cleanse my face, Second, I used pre treatment pad(offered by glytone) Contains alcohol. Third, I made sure my face was completely dried and started to use the 30% glycolic peel pad. I started from the right side of my face(went around eyes& mouth) and alternated to the left side of my face. I noticed as I was doing this that I contiually went over the facial areas the I had previously covered (the total amount of time spent/ tx left on was about 4 minutes) Although, keep in mind I did not do a clean sweep then let my skin rest for a full 4 mins. I gradually went over my skin for 4 mins. Lastly, as I started to see the right side of my face was developing small white formations(early signs of blisters) I put a ton of nuetralizer soulution on my face to take away the stinging and calm the facial surface area.
Later that night, I was in a panic! As I looked into the mirror I could see raised red bumps on most of the right side of my face. And to the side of my chin where previously there was 2 cystic acne spot about to rise to the surface have now turned into a merging of the 2 in the form of a early forming scab.

I took a ibuproferion, lathered as much emu-oil on my skin as possible. I then put cortizone cream on the right side of my face and a little to the left. (Then I read somewhere that cotizone cream thins the skin.) Washed that off, then put polysporin just about everywhere.

Next morning,
Face calmed down a little, Although still looked raw. I could see on the right side, the raised bumps were still there. It looked like contact dermatitis, (Which I have never had)

Day 2,
Can see that the left side of my face looks increasingly smooth and clear (no real harm was done there.) The right side, looks like the raised red bumps are healing (although, still raised and looks very irritated.

What I don't understand is how my right side could errupt into what appears to be an acnaeic/dermatitus condition. The left side was not effected in a way such as this.
And why has my chin (where the 2 cystic pimples) formed into a pre-merging scab.

Should I have not contually gone over my face for 4 mins. with the peel? Will my face scar. Will the erruption settled down?
