my last baby was a 27 weeker im preg again and scared

by melmann22, Jun 14, 2008 03:03PM
my daughter who is 17 months now was a 27 weeker she was 2.4 lbs. she stayed in the nicu for four months and was sent home on an apnea monitor. she has chronic lung disease and asthma she is developmentally perfect just small. but now i am 6 weeks pregers and scared that this one will be born early to my daughter taylor who was born a year before ava(the 27 wkr) was born at 33 weeks. so i`m hoping this one isn`t even earlier than ava. my doc said he is going to start me on progesteron shots at 21 weeks. has anyone had this done and does it help? ava was almost born at 21 weeks and they managed to stop the labor but i didnt get those injections. i also just had a miscarriage with twins 3 months ago. but this baby is doing good the heart rate is a strong 150.

first of all congrats!!!  and im sorry about your loss with twins!
i just had a baby 13 weeks ago he was born at 24 weeks and hes still in the NICU...its been a long 90 days and he still has at least another month! hes doing really good just doing everything at a slow pace, but its been 3 months another month is not going to kill me!
do you know whats the cause for you to go in preterm labor?? i know my Drs. are already talking about me and my future pregnancy...which i will most likely get a cerclage at 12 weeks and pregesterone shots from 19 weeks and bed rest from than till birth...my problem is inconpetence cervix...sounds like you have a plan with the progesterno shots...i have a friend who did the shots and she gave birth at 37 weeks ...me and my husband want to have another baby soon too because now that they know whats going on with me they can help me manage my prenancy better and the more i wait the more older i get the more complications can arise...and ive already been trough so much..i just want to have a normal pregnancy...which i already know thas never going to happen...but at least now we have a plan when before i had no idea what i was getting myself into!
again good luck keep me  posted on your progress...and i wish you the best!!

Take care.

that`s good i`m glad he is doing good. my baby is doing really well now we went threw alot in the nicu but she is very good now. still on nebulizer medications but two meds a day is better than 13 thats what she came home with. they cant tie my cervix because my water breaks and labor starts. i wasnt even dialated when i went into labor they were going to do a c- section because her heart rate was so low with each contraction. i get another ultrasound tomorrow so i hope all is well. i hope your baby comes home soon. how much does he wieght now? there are some web sites that sell clothes for tini tinies and they are okay for the nicu try the preemie store just google it. i ordered ava clothes that fit her when she was less than 2 lbs. good luck

hey yeahh i did too!! i got soo many cute outfits for him..but he now outgrew them all! hes 4 lbs 1 oz as of yesterday! hes doing good other than being on oxygen with 2lt flow they are trying to get him off to the blender and just go into a canula..did your daughter have a hard time bottle feeding? seems like he starts nippling and he tried to suck too much at once and than he starts chocking and he starts desatting of course and it freaks me out..they tell me its normal hes just trying to get used to it...but its scarry!! his on 28 cal. formula and they might bump it up to 30 cal. im not sure how many meds hes gonna be on once he comes home...all i know rite now is that i want him home already...even dough it freaks me out too!

I really hope everything goes well...just listen to your drs and make sure you tell them if somenthing dosent feel rite...i made the mistakes since this was my first time being pregnant i dint know what to expect and i think that sometimes all this could have been prevented if it was caught on time but i guess things always happen for a reason and no matter what we cant stop em from coming...just take a deep breath and take each day as it comes! good luck hun...keep in touch!

yes she actually had the most trouble eating that is one of the main reasons she was in the nicu so long. she was on breast milk so i think that helped alot. she also didn`t wean off oxygen very well. but she didn`t go home on oxygen. she was born breach (frank breach) she came out butt first not feet first and that is very dangerous it tore the lining inside her stomach she had double inguanal hernia`s and her ovaries were poking through the holes so she had to have emergency surgery at 2 mo old and she was only 3 lbs. 7ozs . something happened during the surgery and she got an infection due to being intibated for the surgery and she had to be put on the vent again. that was a huge set back ans she had to start to learn to eat all over again. did your son have a pda at birth? hers was pretty bad but 4 rounds of encard closed it. she now wieghs 19 lbs she is the size of a 10 month old she walks every where and says lots of words so the do get alot better they just need time.

no my son furtunally dint have a pda!! and no bleeding in the brain either!! he was born via c-section because he was breached too feet first and my drs dint want to take the chance...hes got an inguanal hernia too but it dosent seem to be a bother at the moment so they are not worried about it....he will most likely get ir rapiered down the road...hes 4 lbs 5 oz as of today...as of monday we started nippleling him once a day hes doing ok on it...but still needs time...we changed this nipple to the slow flow one so hes working harder and he gets tired pretty quick...like hes up to 34 cc and he only took 18 cc with the bottle....but they did some changes today too they brought down his flow to 1 1/2 liter so that could be why he got tired fast too because hes actually working more on his own trying to breath...hes 37 weeks 2 days and his 3 months old as of today too!! hopefully i wont have to wait too long to take him home..it would be a miracle if he would come home on no oxygen...i would like cry!! but we will see what happens!

thats actually pretty good the 18cc ava would only take like 10cc for the longest time. they almost place a surgical feeding tube to send her home. then all of a sudden she started eating 40cc and they let her go home when she was at 60. i hope your son doesn`t go home on oxygen but even if he does its not so bad.

my son has been home for a week now. and unfurtunally he came home on 02 its been hell trying to adjust with him waking up every 3-4 hours for feeds...the 02 tank cord is not long enough so i can walk around the house holding him...i have to do everything in the family room which *****!! trying to get to dr. app. is another problem im having with all thw wired for the tank than the monitor he came home on 1/2 liter and i got him down to 1/4 for the past 2 days im really trying to stay positive this is really making everything harder and its takin a toll on me, im sleep deprived and with all these drs. app. i never know what to do and on top of it i have to to it all on my own because my husband works crazy hours...i want this time to fly by fast.

at 29 weeks they have a way better chance than what my son had being born at 24 week....i cant tell you for sure that everything is doing to fine because when they are preemie like that we just never know...its always going to be 1 step forward and 2 step back especially in the beggining but it does get better...my son furtunally dint have a pda or bleeding in the brain he got lucky....he just kept needing blood transfusions because they kept taking all these blood out for labs and he wasent able to make new blood cells on his own fast enough...he had many infections too many times in his belly..furtunally it resolved on its own without any surgery and still till this day we never were able to figure out what was causing him for his belly to be retaining fluid...and he had his share of feedings ups and downs...till the last week he was coming home we tought for sure he was going to come home on a feeding tube...but couple days before he started nippling and taking all his bottles....unfurtunally his lungs werent developed enough that early so hes home on 02 which compare what it could have been like this is just a small price to pay...he was born 1 lbs 7 oz and he went down to 1 lbs today hes 6 lbs 10 oz and is considered like a newborn...its going to be hard and they mostly likely will be able to come  home around your due date if nothing happens...my son was realsed 1 day before my due date! just stay strong and always think positive...being on canula is already a big step my son was on a vent for 2 months!!
Good luck to you and hugs and kisses for your 2 little miracles!
