hope for eyesight to come bk after stroke?

by rebec0924, Jun 15, 2008 07:09AM
hi, new to this site, my spouse had a stroke on march 26, after thinking he was sick from food poison i took him to the hospital  because he had gotten really sick throwing up and i was afraid he was getting dehydrated, come to find out he did have food poison but had ripped an artery in the back from throwing up which caused him to have a stroke, he's 52.  they immediately checked him in and while he was at hospital had a 2nd stroke from a blood clot that dislodged from the area, this effected his left side, he was in the neuro intensive care for a little over 3 weeks with a tube inside his brain to drain the fluid out, he was able to have it removed and then went to immediate care and then rehab, he just came home june 6th, he is still weak on left side, can now feel his left foot, but numbness everywhere else on left side and his left perperial vision is gone and he sees blurriness, he explains as like 3 dimensional, and stays very dizzy.  has anyone ever experienced anything like this?

I am so sorry about your spouse and do hope he gets well soon.   I too recently had a stroke in March and my eyesight is very poor now although I hope it will come back or at least improve.  I know how he feels as it is so frustrating to have your sight and then loose it or have double vision plus blurry vision.  I get dizzy as well but they tell me after time it should get better.  The numbness is on my left side and has improved over the last couple of months which gives me hope that my eyes will improve in time as well.
I picked up some cheap reading glasses for the time being as I can no longer read any small or sometimes large print.   Is he on blood pressure medication now and also did they do a scan of the arteries and vessels in the head/brain as that can tell them about his macro and vision.   My left eye seems to be worse then the right but again this is all new to me as well so I do feel for you both.

I will keep him in my prayers and would like to add that my neurologist told me to be patient as it takes time to heal and usually if the stroke was mild, a patient will get most of the feeling back and even all of it for some.

hang in there!!!

thanks for replying back, my husband is on bp medicine and an antivert pill, plus a patch he wears behind his ear, and still he stays dizzy, we are trying to be patient, we will go back to see his doctor for a follow up this coming wednesday, he still has a very small bleed in his head, which they don't seem to be very concerned about, i'm sure they will want to do another scan to see if it has resolved.  at one time he was having a mri every other day, so i'm sure they have been keeping an eye on his arteries, his stroke was pretty serious.  i do appreciate you praying for him and we will do the same for you, i feel like that is what has saved his life, all the prayers,  God bless you also
