What's going on??

by Nic23, Jun 15, 2008 01:21PM
I am 24 years of age, healthy, never really had any serious medical conditions. For the past few months I have been collapsing, basically my legs keep giving out on me. There is no dizziness, no black outs, no sweating, no vision blurriness or difficulties etc. Basically, I am sitting with clients or at church or in my car, I go to stand up and move and end up on the floor in a somewhat un-glamorous heap. There is no tingling sensations, no numbness in my legs, they just don't work...I basically feel like they are somewhat weightless and they cannot support my weight, and will not respond to the transmitters telling them to move! No concerns around diet or hydrations, as usually I am sipping water while I am sitting. Do not feel that it is related to heat, as it has occurred in both air conditioned rooms and others nor do I get the impression that it is related to stress because I am usually relaxed and 'in my element' when it is occuring, (i.e after a movie, after lounging on the couch etc.)

Is it anything serious or simply connected to possible low blood pressure or something??

Thanks

Hi there.

From what you have described, this could be  balance problem or from a primary muscle problem called myopathy.  Balance problems may be caused by problems in different parts of the body such as the eyes, ears, and even the cerebellum (one part of the brain).    Primary muscle problems or primary myopathies can be caused by muscular dystrophies which may initially be assessed with tests like EMG.  As there can be a number of possibilities, I suggest that you have yourself checked by your doctor.

For now, avoid too much stress and have adequate rest.  Regards and God bless.
