Closed head injury recovery time?

My father suffered a fall and had a closed head injury. He had two small bleeds in his brain which luckily didn't need  surgical intervention. He was placed on Keppra 500mg orally twice a day for seizure precautions due to the fall. He has been on the medication for approximately three weeks. He is tired, blah, and feels short of breath. I know it will take time to heal but do you know how long he should have to be on the medication and/or how long he will feel this way? I'm not sure how much activity to encourage. If you have any information or advice to ask the neurologist, I would greatly appreciate it!!

Hi there.

I'm sorry to learn what just happened.  The Keppra will do nothing to speed up clot recovery and resolution, and this is just to prevent any seizure that may arise from the injury.  The clot resolution may only take 4-6 weeks to resolve, however, the full recovery of functions and rehabilitation may take more time (may be 3 months or more).  It is best that he also undergo formal rehabilitation to speed up the recovery process.  Regards and God bless.

Thanks for your help! Do you know if Keppra makes you feel blah and tired all the time? Will those side effects get better? I am assuming the medication is playing a part in the way he feels. Well I  greatly appreciate any input you have! Thanks so much!
