a week ago i had my lower right wisdom tooth removed as well as receiving 4 fillings. since then i have not regained the feeling in my tongue and the pain is getting substantially worse not better. i have asked my dentist why this would happen and was basically told that i should come back in a week if it hasn't gotten better. is there anything i can do to help speed recovery along? painkillers do not have any effect on me.

Prolonged numbness is not a common finding following dental treatment and may be related to the surgery or local anesthesia injection.

In either case, it is best to be evaluated early by a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon.  Clinical research has shown that the sooner proper intervention is started the better the prognosis.
