Valve Diease/Pulmonary HTN and Severe Weight gain?

by chopperchickie, Jun 16, 2008 08:15AM
I am a 36 y.o. female.  I went to Cleveland Clinic Cardiology Dept and had a ton of tests completed.  Through the tests it was determined that I have moderately severe triscuspid regurgitation, enlarged upper chambers and enlarged right ventricle. I am also showing Mild Pulmonary Hypertension at a pressure of 46 mm/hg.  My blood tests for heart failure, liver functions etc.  were normal.  My anemia corrected itself (showed anemic for the past 6 months except this month)  and my pulmonary functions test showed no obstructions.  The Cardiologist is performing a left and a right heart Catherization as well as performing a test to check my coronary arteries.  I was concerned about my weight gain as when my symptoms began in January, I weight 136 pounds and 7 days later I was 177 pounds.  Now 6 months later I am 200 pounds despite my dieting and my exercising (which I have not been able to do for the past month due to SOB)  The Cardiologist said the cyclic weight gain I am experiencing is NOT due to my heart or lungs but possibly a metabolic issue.  Is is possible that the valve disease and/or the pulmonary HTN has aided in the 70 pound weight gain in 6 months or has inhibited my other body processes.  The Cardiologiest suggested that I take care of my heart and lung first then deal with my weight.  That made me wonder if my other body processes would correct itself as well.  ANy help or experience would be greatly appeciated.  Thank you.
