Hcg level is 12 mIU/ml

by NICKYB78, Jun 16, 2008 05:14PM
Hi, i am posting this question unbehalf of my sister. I have no idea about pregnancy nor its complication so i am going to get very basic. Her last period was on may 18 to21 then ovulation began on may 31 to june 1 .She was told to do a pregnacy test today it was positive but her hcg level was 12mlU/ml. She was told by her doctor that if the levels don't  increase by thursday then they will have to flush her out. Is there and alternative other than the latter? or Can anyone suggest an alternative?

This early on it could be completely viable pg. The hcg should double every 48 to 72 hours.  At 4wk from 1st day of last period it is typically around 100. BUT some people ovulate slightly later in the cycle and implantation can happen slightly further along also.  All these things will greatly effect the hcg level this early on.  HCG does not start until after implantation and implantation can happen from 6 to 12 days after ovulation.  If you ovulated on day 6 your hcg would be a lot higher than if you ovulated on day 12.

For now I think your sister's chances are really good.  You will have to see how the number rises.  If the number goes down or rises but very slowely it is likely not a viable pg.  If the number doubles every 48 to 72 hours than big ole congrats to your sister.  best of luck to her!!
