stomach pain at night

by kjhammond, Jun 17, 2008 12:05AM
My daughter is 10 yrs. old and has recently been complaining of stomach pain at night before going to bed.  This has been going on for about the past week.  She says it hurts and feels like she needs to vomit a little.  She always ends up sleeping fine through the night and never gets sick.  By morning she says she feels fine.  Her appetite is completely normal.  Her diet is also.  Her dad also has reoccuring stomach problems.  Acid reflux,  hiatal hernia, esoghagus problems, etc.  He takes Prilosec on a daily basis.  Any suggestions or reccomendations?

WELCOME to the COMMUNITY!

I would discuss this with her pediatrician and continue to watch things.  My daughter has the same thing going on ... we tried some Mylanta and Gas X types of chewables which help relieve the gas but not the cramping.  We don't have a firm answer yet but our Pedi GI suggests we watch the carbohydrate intake and also she uses Beano when eating milk products which has helped alot.

It is a detective work and so hard to figure out.

If your Dr will allow some good am't of Mylanta or trial of a Pepcid or something like that, it may give an indication if it helps even a little, of what they want to look for and timeframes to see if she gets better, etc.

My daughter gets the hot stuff coming up when this happens; in her case she is also constipated which is pushing up causing the reflux and then it goes away.
