hypokinesis

by safrenchy, Jun 17, 2008 03:14PM
I recently had a stress test and they said "Decreased activity is identified about the apex felt to be artifactual. Wall motion is abnormal with hypokinesis of the mid anterior wall as well as minimal hypokinesis about the apex. Post stress ejection fraction is normal at 54%.Impression:Technically limited examination. Decreased activity about the apex may be real ar artifactual. There is hypokinesis noted along the mid anterior wall. Poststress ejection fraction is normal at 54%."  Could you please help me to understand this better. I want to thank anybody for their help.

Hypokinesis is a heart wall movement impairment. An artifact is structual change from a chemical or it can be a transient signal picked up by the EKG, etc.

If there is some wall movement disorder, and it is a structual abnormality (real) due to damaged heart cells, it is minor and basically insignificant due to location and/or degree.  Normal EF (amount of blood pumped out with each heartbeat) is about 55 to 75%. An EF is an estimate and the margin of error can be 5 to 10%.
