mothers cracked pelvis

by deb160, Jun 17, 2008 03:36PM
thank you for your reply.  My mother was seen at the hospital here in Spain and an x ray was taken and she was informed she had a cracked pelvis.  We have to give her injections in her stomach each day as she is not moving only to go to the toilet.  She can stand, sit,  and walk very carefully to the toilet. The crack is on the right side, on the x ray we could see her false hip and it was just below hence the pain in her groin the doctor said.  When she walks she can only lift the right leg maybe half inch off the floor.
The fall was from a small step in my sisters garden and she fell on to her right side brusing he ribs as well.
She is getting frustrated and depresssed crying all the time as she feels she is not improving.  I have told her that if she was in  a cast it would be a mim of 6 weeks and as she is older and also has osteprosis it is going to take alot longer.  Is there anything else we should be doing to aid her recovery

Hi,

I think you are doing the right thing in giving her all the care and support that she needs. The fracture will take its own time to heal. You can make sure she receives adequate amounts of calcium through food items and supplements. I wish your mother a speedy recovery.
