Leg swelling - so much in pain

by Cheskalyn, Jun 17, 2008 10:16PM
My father had a one foot- finger mastectomy last Nov. 07 and is taking insulin until now. He is now suffering from a severe leg pain that sometimes he can't walk, he is taking neurontin everyday. The doctor says this is a side effect of being a diabetic and taking meds. Is there any cure to this? Is it really the uric acide that makes him experienced sever leg pain. He is already 59 and I thought it might be arthritis. Any advise?

I too suffer the leg pain.  Mine does not always stop me from walking, but there are days when I simply do not want to.  I somehow think that there is not a connection though because my pain is primarily in the lower leg & ankles.  I have been told that mine is Edema.

Initially my doctor had me on Neurontin.  Then suddenly he took me off the med & gave me a scrip for a different one.  I have seen certain "lawyer commercials" that say if you are on Neurontin there is a law suit one can join.  Perhaps you can investigate on computer if there is indeed some type of recall for the drug. (I usually look at WebMD for info)  Also, have your father write a series of questions for the doctor so he can ask at the next appointment.

Additionally, I take a med for excessive Uric Acid.  No doc has ever told me of a connection between the leg pain & the acid.  Quite frankly it could simply be Arthritis.  I am 52 and suffer it in both knees and one ankle.  (I take Glucosamine & Condrotin for that)

Hopefully someone else on this site will be able to provide more information to you.  I find that it is a good place to find out that there are so very many others with the same problems one might have.  I certainly hope good information comes your way.

Here's hoping!!   Anita
