pain after dental crown

by mrscud, Jun 18, 2008 09:35AM
I started with a toothache, eye twitch, and pain in my upper cheek.   The dentist then sent me to have a root canal.  I was given a temporary (which still left me with pain and was required to take another set of antibiotics).  After the final crown was in place, it was several weeks before I could even chew on that side (the tooth is the second from the back, upper rack).  All my friends said that once the final crown was in place, I should have no pain.  The pain was not related to hot or cold, but I thought that by just touching the side of the tooth, it was sensitive.  I can close down on my bite and feel the exact location of "hurt".  It is not a pain requiring advil, but I just feel that something is not right.  When I went back to the dentist after 5 weeks, he suggested rinsing with salt water.  That's it.  He said the root looked fine from a new x-ray.  Will I feel this forever?  Why do I still have the pain?  A friend thought that an air pocket may have been formed when the final crown went in.  Could that be the case of the discomfort?

Going back to your dentist to have more occlusal adjustment is advised.
