7weeks and no heart beat

by Gio459, Jun 18, 2008 02:17PM
Hi... I went an seen my doctor yesterday and was told that I was 7 weeks and that the baby had no heart beat. the doctor scheduled a D& C for me  for 4:30 that day, after looking on line and talking to others who have children I was told that sometimes it is to early to hear a heart beat and that is why you normally get the first Ultra sound at 11 to 12 weeks..  from my calculation I am only 5 weeks... have you even had a Ultra Sound that showed no heart beat and it just been unable to be detected it that early? please help

Hello,

I'm not sure if you are in that situation.  I would go by the radiologist's read of the ultrasound and the suggestion of your doctor.  If you are uncertain, wait two weeks and have the ultrasound repeated.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing

Hello I have heard of other women of the forum say that they didn't get a heart beat until 9 weeks.  Did they see a sac??

If you are uncertain, wait it out a little bit longer and then go back for another ultrasound.  You don't want to always be questioning...check again with your doctor and have them do another ultrasound.

i too think that u should wait a bit more. they could have miscalculated and therefore too early to hear the heartbeat. but other than that did everything else look normal?  i just think that if something were wrong mother nature would take care of it and u could miscarry

Hi I think you should wait a bit, if it is a miscarriage it will start on it's own most Dr's want it to run it's own course unless it is life threatening. i pray that it is just too early for detection.  good luck and stay in touch....I would ask your doc why he is in such a hurry to do the D&C.

take care
Cathy

I think that is way to early if you're really only 5 weeks.. if she didn't do an ultrasound.  I couldn't hear my daughters until 10 weeks.  They did an ultrasound at 7 weeks that you could see the little heart beating, but you couldn't hear it of course on the ultrasound.  I then had an ultrascreen at 12 weeks, and another at 20 weeks.

Hold off.. if that's the only thing they are going off of.

Thank you all for your comments... I went to a different doctor today, he did not do an ultra sound because he said that by the examination he did,  he could tell the pregnacy is still very early. he did do a HCG test to check my hcg level and I have to go again on sat to see if that level is increasing.. I pray it is. I will find out Monday the results. Until then please keep us in your prayers. thank you

hi gio in a similar situation.... heres my story!!!!!

My Last normal period was on 20th April 08. I missed my period on 21st May.08 and I didn't bother to test coz i have a history of irregular periods. Until JAN,08 (for 1 year) my periods were here and there, It would range from 40 day to 50 day cycle...... they were regular (showed on time 30 - 32 day cycle) from feb to April. I didn't have any symtoms too..... until first week of JUNE i felt unusually tired and breasts killed me!!!! (note- no Morning sickness- except GAG while brushing)

I got to know I was pregnant on June 5th (poundland HPT EVENING +VE in the evening) next day got a postitive on a better HPT (tesco) and also confirmed at the doctors. I insisted for a Beta - HCG - which obv returned +ve.

On 15th June had sharp pain on the right lower side of my abdomen which lasted for 15 seconds and then vanished. On 16th JUNE - had some brown discharge in the morning  - very little - on Toilet paper n little on my knickers. No pain/cramping.

I met my GP that day who booked me for a scan the very next day.

on 17th JUNE - scans both abdominal and transvaginal..... with full bowel the tech told that it was squeezing everything n couldn't see what she wanted....  so asked me to empty my bowel so that she could do a Transvaginal. Which I did and ...... she put me back to 5 weeks coz there was an empty sac(No hb/fetal pole) and asked me if my dates were right (for which i told "YES")

The doctor incharge called me in and told me the sac measured only 5mm and asked me to give blood for HCG & PROGESTERONE (which i did ) ... Had been to the hospital today to repeat the same test.....

The first test showed 4903 and second showed 5921

they are rising but slowly??? any advice is appreciated!

wow, this does sound like me so far... I did have some brown spotting early on and was told not top worry because it is normal. the docotor said that it was old blood once the baby moves and attaches to the uterus this normally happen. ( that is what I was told)

As far as the HCG test .. I requested that from my original doctor but he was so set on doing the D&C before he went out of town ... which is why I changed doctors.

my new doctor did a HCG test yesterday  and my level is 10642.. I have to take another test Sat to compare the 2 numbers. the doctor told me that we are looking for that number to increase. I would say that it is definantly good news that your numbers are increasing even if it is rising slowly its rising.

I feel like every baby is different and that means that all pregnacy are not going to be the same.. some HCG levels rise slowly some rise quickly... but its rising.

I will keep you up to date on what happens with me, and i will keep you and your baby in my prayers.

I hope everything works out for you on Saturday.

I created a post earlier.  I may be a week behind (5 and 1/2) although I thought I was already 6 and a half weeks because last week this week there was no heart beat.  The doctor said at 5 and 1/2 weeks there shoudl be one.  We are waiting one more week to see one. HIs opionion that there should definately be one at 5 and 1/2 weeks is worrying to me.  I know people who did not see one until they were close to 7 weeks.  I too am wondering if maybe I chose the right doctor.  I am also on prometrium.  They increased my dosage yesterday to 4 times a day.

Also, my HCG levels were rising very fast the first week and 1/2, but then started slowing down.  They are rising, but not doubling.  It is really freaking me out, but this site made me feel so much better.

well I got the results back on the 23rd and my HCG levels were decreasing, I also started bleeding so the doctor did another Ultra sound everything was the same. there was still no heart beat and thier was no growth form the measurments done the week prior.. I had the D& C friday because the doctor said my cervix were open and he did not want to risk an infection...  I hope it turns out differently for those of you who are going thru the same thing. Sls571 I was told that you should not see one until 6 weeks.. all the information is different depending on  the doctor you talk to ( it seems)  and  I was also told that if your HCG level is increasing or doubling every 48 hours you are good.  Good luck with everything I know it is hard to have to sit and wait. Ill keep you in my prayers.

I need help. This is my first pregnancy and everything went wrong.
I am 15 weeks, on the 21 of jun i had my first ultrasound. I just got the results and they said that there was no baby that they just saw the sac and the fluid. My doctor send me to take the hormone test on the 30 of jun. My next appt is jul 3 to test the hormone level again. I started to have some spotting on the 30 of jun. Is there any way that the ultrasound is wrong and everything is ok? I need help.
