5 weeks 5 days no heart beat of fetal pole... WHY!!!!

by Waterlilly1976, Jun 18, 2008 05:46PM
I had an ultrasound done in th ER due to some bleeding I had in the evening, now when I went to my first prenatal visit my Dr said I was about 7-weeks and this ultrasound showed 5-weeks five days, my levels at the time were 28016 and the impression on the report stated no distictive fetal pole or heart beat, I was told to repeat the HCG which I did and my levels are now 40846, I am so worried I really don't want to loose my baby, ugh soooo stressed out, please HELP!!!!

It just may have been to early to see anything. I wouldnt worrie.

you may have ovulated later causing your actual conception date to be off from your lmp.  If in fact you are only around 5-6 weeks it would be too early to see much of anything.  I would request a repeat scan in a week or two and see what happens.

waterlilly-

I had the same thing happen to me, Don't over stress yourself hun, your dates could be wrong and you could have ovulated sooner or later than you thought. If your levels are rising then thats a good sign.

I was told that I needed a D&C because at 5 weeks there was no fetal pole or yolk sac, but I denied the D&C and waited until I was about 8 weeks and sure enough there was a baby!

Don't take any drastic measures, just tell your doc you want to have HCG tests and u/s on a regular basis until you are 8 weeks or 9 weeks along, if nothing is there by then and your levels are rising, id say keep going on with the pregnancy, because if it is an unhealthy one you will eventually miscarry, if not then eventually you will see a baby on the u/s.

At 5 weeks there sometimes is no heartbeat yet... The fact that your hcg levels are going up is a good thing... Stay positive... If baby wasn't growing the hcg would't double like that... You were probably too early to tell... You need a follow up u/s in a week or two... Although I am with you about not wanting to loose the baby... I have to repeat my u/s in two weeks and I know from experience it will feel like 2 mths...
Hang in there....

Hang in there, what everyone else said are great points to keep in mind so at the risk of soudning redundant, it may really be to early for a heartbeat to be seen. My doc is seeing me at 6.5 weeks and he said at that point we should see them for sure and that is still almost a week later than yours, don't get discouraged or give up yet!!

If you were 7 weeks from LMP your baby would measure 5 weeks. Take off two weeks from LMP to get the "real" age

Last week at what I have calculated to be 5 weeks I had an ultrasound where the dr. saw the sac but nothing else. We did the HCG levels on Monday-8015 Thursday-18037. I am going in today for another u/s. My dr. told me not to worry. I have had 4 m/c's and my numbers are higher than ever now so please have faith and don't give up on the little one. He/she will show themselves. Just believe.
