I had a total gastrectomy three months ago because my stomach unexpectedly died. I am back to a normal diet now, but I am getting sick after about high my meals. I don't know exactly how to describe this pain, but it's similar to extreme nausea, but right where my esophogus is now connected to my small intestine. The symptoms are similar to those describe as dumping syndrome, however it does not only occur if I eat sugar; it can be caused by any food it seems. I have modified my diet as suggested, no longer eating sugars, anything high in fat, anything stringy or too chewy or too high in fiber, but I'm still getting sick. They have done numerous contrast x-rays and can't see anything wrong such as inflamation. I'm worried that this will never go away and that there is nothing the medical community can do to help me.
Lastly, I get so bloated after everything I eat too, but I've found that extra strength gas-x helps pretty well :)
I had a total gastrectomy and Gall-Bladder removed in August 2005 due to Zollinger-E. After several months of a liquid diet, slowly start to eat soft food in small portions and at least 6 times a day. For over three years I was getting very bloated after each meal, and with the consequent discomfort and often with pain. My doctors suggested to eliminate from diet foods like: flower (pasta, breads, etc), rice, sugars, pulses (chick-peas, lentils, beans, etc) fried food, and any form of lactose products. I must say that it's helping me a lot; I only get bloated when I eat any of the foods listed above. Of course I lost weight and due to that fact, the doctors asked me to eat 8-10 meals a day, hard to keep it when I'm working, but it's worth it. Also one thing that helps is to keep a diary of what you're eating and afterwards write down who did you feel.
I hope this helps.

I had a total stomach removeal in July of 08 and so far no problems.. I had gangrine in my stomach. I eat very little but 6 times a day. If I eat sweets, I pay for it. Other wise, I've been fine. I am 68 years old. The first few weeks I was on clear liquids and gradually moved to soft foods. Now, I can eat anything. I haven't tried popcorn.
Have you noted that there's a 'consistency' to the foods that get stuck? The barium is liquidy. Are the 'stuck' foods of a more solid nature?
