What is Your Opinion?

After my new doctor felt a rollable lump near breast (outer quadrant) she questioned it..I've had it for ten years and had gone to a surgeon then and he said it was muscle tissue...I'm 47 and had baseline mammogram when 30..have had mammograms since with no callbacks..two months ago (before my doctor appt.) had didital mammogram and it was fine..She recommended ultrasound...Report came back with very dense parenchymal tissue in that area with a small cystic focu of 3mm..no suspicious solid masses could be seen..Further clinical exam recommended for palpable area.. Upon receiving that report, made an appointment with surgeon who said he would recommend to surgically remove as he couldn't tell if it is muscle, breast tissue or what it is..said it could be lymph node but doesn't know..said it is too small to aspirate...Admits he is an aggresive surgeon.. Says I don't have to rush as I have had it for ten years... There have been no changes in feel of it...He says it is up to me, but that is what he recommends. What is your opinion?

Dear dawry, Over the internet without ability to evaluate including review of tests, physical exam etc. it is difficult to make recommendations.  Another option is to have a second opinion from a breast specialist who could make recommendations after evaluation of the information.

Hi, A biopsy of a small lump is really a prettty benign[safe] procedure assuming it woudl just be done with local anesthesion. So weighing risk vs benefit a biopsy would remove the concern period. If the surgeon says it must be done under general anesthesia you might wait and have it followed carefully every few months.
