The drug is delivered under the skin, it is deposited into the subcutaneous fat, where it will be absorbed in the blood stream slowly. If it is leaking out of the puncture wound, then of course it may not work. Not all fluid that leaks from puncture wounds are necessarily leaking drug, hence an examination of a doctor would be very important.
