symptoms of post polio syndrome

by Pam3781, Jun 19, 2008 08:19PM
I am a 54 year old female who was diagnosed with polio at the age of 4. I was unable to walk for one week after the fever and headache and muscle weakness. For a period of several months I was kept in bed and carried to the bathroom or anywhere else I needed to go. After several months the symptoms subsided and I was able to regain the use of my use of my lower extremeties. About 3 years ago I began having episodes of extreme muscle weakness. At times I was unable to use my arms, I just couldn't seem to lift them for a brief period of time. Several minutes. Then I began having episodes where my entire body would go limp and I could only describe the experience as if someone "pulled the plug". It was as if I had no capability of the use of my extremities. It seems to exacerbate if I get extremely stressed or tired. I have heard of post polio syndrome as I am a RN and wondered if any of these symptoms have appeared with others with post polio syndrome?
