by jawahar, Jun 20, 2008 12:18AM
My daughter, 4 Yrs 9 months of age has been suferring from absences attacks and taking Valporin 200 three times a day ( 2.5ml - 2.5ml - 5ml ) since 2nd week of May this year. Since 12th instant Dr has advised to take Valporin 200 three doses of 5ml each. When medicine started she had about 25 jerks a day. Since last week, it is noticed that she suffers no jerks. Please guide whether we should stop the medicine because after starting the medicine her weight has increased by 5Kgs. She is now 24 Kgs. How her weight will reduce and come to normal. Will she be having any other complication due to this medicine in her life later on. Presently she is undergoing the treatmenr from Dr Rajeev Anand of Jaipur Golden Hospital, Delhi. Please guide wheather consultation from other Dr is required. Can u suggest any name of a Dr in Delhi. Next month she will going to her school. Whether there will be any problem because is under drowsiness during day time also. What precution we can take.
Her mother, Kaval, is always available on 9990958896.

Hi there.

I don't know any doctors in Delhi but I can give you some opinion.  Seizures of any type do not go away very easily and there is a big chance that stopping the medications may result in the seizures coming back or getting more frequent.  The weight gain is also hard to attribute to this drug, and it is important to look at other causes of weight gain, most commonly due to increased caloric intake.  It is important that the medications be continued until your doctor says otherwise as withdrawal may cause more problems.

Wishing you and your child all the best.  Regards.
