Sleep apnea and pulmonary hypertension

by carolsel, Jun 20, 2008 07:02AM
My 19 year old daughter is diagnosed with dysthymia, anxiety, and ADHD and also has features of Fibromyalgia.  She suffers from fatigue that is chronic which has persisted since a bout of mononucleosis six years ago.  She has hypermobile joints, but her skin is not hyperelastic.

A sleep EEG done years ago does not show a seizure disorder.  A sleep study done a couple of years ago showed "a few episodes of hypopnea, mild apnea with mild desaturations; however, she was able to sleep with a 95% sleep efficiency....her lowest oxygen desaturation was 93%."

Because of ongoing fatigue and increasing anxiety, her doctor ordered a cardiac ECHO which showed "normal left ventricular systolic function and size. Mild tricuspid regurgitation.  Mild pulmonary areterial hypertension."  The sleep specialist did not recommend anything and felt that she had a delayed sleep phase shift common in teenagers.

While we will pursue a cardiac consultation, do you think sleep apnea might be contributing to the tricuspid regurgitation and pulmonary hypertension.  What do you suggest.

FYI, I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and sleep apnea.  Use of a CPAP has NOT had an affect on my "idiopathic daytime somnolemnce."

I would appreciate advice.  Thank you.
