What are your favorite childrens' books?

by Logan206, Jun 20, 2008 10:21AM
My 1 year old twins seem to like one I read to them all the time, called "Good Morning, Good Night!" (not even sure the author, it just says Piggy Toes Press).

My three year old is really into 'Make Way for Ducklings' - by McCloskey

Anyone have any favorites?  We're always looking for new ones to try...

Both of our kids loved the "Baby Bee Bee Bird".

Also, for older kids, like 2+, I absolutely love this book "Lost & Found" by Oliver Jeffers. He's an English writer, so a little tough to find over here, but the book is very well done.

Kitten's First Full Moon is cute, but BY FAR my favorite is "Skippy Jon Jones".  There are 2 or 3 different "Skippy Jon Jones" books and the kids in my classroom, K-3 always just love those books!

My favorite book is Love You Forever, by Robert Munsch. Every time I read this book to DD I cry. It is a book about the beautiful love between a mother and her son and how he passes the same love to his baby girl. If you read it you will fall in love with it:)

" I'll love you forever
  I'll like you for always
  As long as I'm living
  my baby you'll be."

Just beautiful:)

For 1 year olds I think they pictures should be bright and large and the words would be simple and large as well. I definitely prefer board books for my almost 2-year-old and lift-the-flaps are great. Have you seen the Karen Katz lift-the-flap books? They're really cute and my son has been lifting the flaps since about 6 or 7 months. They're strong and difficult to tear out (although he sometimes manages to). We have about 9 of them and he still loves to look at them on a daily bases. Their simple and he point to the objects that I ask him to find. They have them for Valentine's Day, Easter, one for Grandpa, Grandma, Mommy, and Daddy (those are his favorites!). Just type in www. and then KarenKatz .com and you can check out the books.

He also likes "Where's Spot?" and the Clifford board books.

My 6 month old loves Brown Bear, Brown Bear and of course I have it memorized by now!   That is the only book she will sit through right now!  I think she likes the bold colors and pictures.  I like Guess How Much I Love You but she is not too interested in Little Nutbrown Hare I guess!
