Irregular heartbeat

by renjen, Jun 20, 2008 12:22PM
I have a very close friend who suffers from atrial fibrillation. He as had a few ablation procedures that have failed on some level and introduced new arrhythmias as well tachycardia. It does not appear that he has ventricular tachycardia, but rather supraventricular tachycardia. For almost two years now he has been on a medicinal regiment that includes Amiodorone, Lisinopril, Toprol, and Coumadin to manage his heart. He does not want to continue taking medication to sustain the heart condition as many have poor side effects. My question...is there any other permanent corrective treatment for his condition? I've seen some info about ICDs and pacemakers. Are these valid options, and what are the success rates?
